The Rollable LG TV Can Be Yours For Just $87,000

Have you ever wished that you could tuck your TV away when you’re not using it in order to clear some space? Many people living in space-limited apartments definitely feel this way. While for a long time we could only dream up what this could look like, see imagined versions in movies and TV shows, or jealously look on as celebrities created custom versions of these TVs in their homes, LG has now released a version that is available to all. The catch? It’s hefty price tag.

LG Signature OLED R

LG made the announcement that the first rollable TV in the world will be available to purchase. The TV is a 65-inch LG Signature OLED R and will be available in seven select consumer electronics stores in South Korea. The TV costs 100 million won, which comes out to about $87,000 USD.

The Signature OLED R is mounted on an OLED panel that is flexible. The company has called it “the most innovative development in television technology in decades.” The flexibility means that it is retractable, both halfway and fully into the case. This mean you can customize how much is hidden.

In a statement, LG said: “LG’s exquisite creation liberates users from the limitations of the wall, enabling owners to curate their living environment without having to permanently set aside space for a large, black screen that is only useful when turned on.”

Customers can choose which color they’d like to cover the wool speaker with a selection of four different colors. The aluminum base also has the option of a personalized engraving.

One difficulty that has faced the company, which is no surprise, is the tough market path. LG Display first showed a prototype of the rollable TV at 2018’s CES and later Bloomberg reported that the display would become a shipping product in the following year. While LG did bring a rollable T to 2019’s CES, it did not actually go on sale.
