Permanent validity for certified copies of birth, marriage and death certificates in Sri Lanka

The regulations on cancellation of certified copies of birth, marriage and death certificates after 6 months are removed

The department states that the regulations that stated that certified copies of birth, marriage and death certificates issued by the Registrar General’s Department will become invalid after 06 months.

Accordingly, if there is a certified copy of any certificate issued, there is no need to obtain a new copy, and it is stated that a new copy should be submitted only if an amendment has been made to a birth, marriage and death record.

It is further stated that the Registrar General’s Department has informed the Ministries of Education, Foreign Affairs and the Department of Immigration and Registration of Persons in this regard.
